Most of my clients usually ask me what ideas I have in terms of locations to shoot their sessions at, so I like to have an arsenal of places for them to choose from. To find my spots, I do a LOT of location scouting! Things I look for while scouting include:

1. lighting (what are the trees and options for shade in case we aren't shooting during the "golden" hour?)
2. background (is it busy? will I have to strategically pose them to block items? what scene is set--is it urban? rustic? waterfront, etc?) 
3. how busy the area is (for example on nice days a lot of the parks I shoot at get CRAZY with people!)
4. what is the parking situation like (this sounds silly, but it's important! I don't want to have my clients having to walk a mile to get to the location, and I want it to be a safe place for them to walk, especially with little kids)

When a client then comes to me asking about where we should do their session at, I will first figure out what scenery is important to THEM and best reflects THEIR style. Do they prefer rustic? More industrial? More urban? A water feature? I also will find out who will be IN the photos too, because often with little kiddos it can be a real pain to have to walk around a lot, so ease of access is very important. I also encourage every client to book their sessions for golden hour lighting so that I can get dreamy bokeh backgrounds that makes everything seem more "magical".... and together, my clients and I can find the perfect setting for their photos!

So, that all being said! Today I went out scouting and found the coolest spot! It's got trees, water, picket fences, silo looking things, a butterfly garden, fields, and even some budding corn to show what it's really like here along the KY/TN state line (haha)! Since my mother in law is in town to help out while my husband is doing some fun Army things, I took her with me and made her model a bit. I'm definitely excited to shoot a maternity/family session at this park TOMORROW, so be on the lookout for the photos from that session too. 😘👍🏻
